We had a really great night and a good turnout. Started off with some solar viewing. The Sun had a lot of Sunspots. Looked at Venus, Jupiter and the Moon once it came up. We had about 7 members may have missed some. Looked at and took a picture Globular Cluster M3.

The next First Friday Public Observing Night at Arbor Gardens is scheduled for this Friday, 5 June.
Sadly, the current forecast is for clouds and drizzle, possible thunderstorms, both Firday and Saturday evenings.
I suspect it will be canceled this month, but keep watching here. The forecasts can change a lot in 4 days!

Two things:
I am thinking about going out to Arbor Gardens tonight… Thursday, June 4th, “First Thursday???” If anyone else wants to come out.
Perhaps, we could try for a “Second Friday” this month???…Since the meeting at SMO got moved back a week. Just an idea, I know some of us will be involved with Sallys night at SMO on June 11th.
First Friday Public Observing Night tonight, 5 June, is canceled.
The forecast hasn’t changed from completely cloudy and possible thunderstorms tonight. And for thunderstorms tomorrow night. I’m also canceling All Members Night at CRO tomorrow. The weather is just not co-operating with viewing the universe right now.
The long range forecast for next Friday is Some Clouds right now. I’m open to rescheduling then, but I’m not going to put it on the calendar until next week.

The next First Friday Public Observing Night is Jul 3rd at Arbor Gardens Park in Moore. Sunset is at 8:49pm and Moon rises at 11:21pm. Venus and Jupiter will be up. This is a holiday weekend so checking to see if anyone will be able to cover this event. I don’t think I will be able to make this one.

Will any fireworks displays be visible from there?
Just checked the forecasts. Predictions are for completely overcast for the couple of hours around sunset. Partly to mostly cloudy on each side of that. It won’t clear up until around midnight.
While it might be good for fireworks viewing, not so much for star gazing. Plus, no one has confirmed they will be there.
I’m canceling the public viewing event this month. Hopefully Aug will be better!

The next First Friday Public Viewing event is at 1900, August 7, at Arbor Gardens Park in Moore.
Sunset will be at 2027; the moon won’t rise until 0054 Saturday morning. Hopefully long after everyone has left.
The forecast is predicting partly cloudy until around Sunset, then clearing up the rest of the evening. Temps will be warm, 95F around 1900, cooling to around 89F at 2200. Winds will be moderate, around 10mph.
Please post on here if you are planning to attend! My plans are in flux, so not sure if I can make it or not.
I don’t think I can make it - school event from 8:30 - 10:00.
I will try to make it… weather permitting.

Well, the forecast has changed dramatically. It looks like it’s raining in Moore right now, and it will be mostly cloudy until around at least 2200, about the time we’d be leaving.
Unless someone jumps in here and wants to be there JIC anyone shows up, I’m going to cancel this about 1700.
It looks like it will be clear tomorrow night, but we also have All Members Night at CRO tomorrow.
If anyone wants to host First Friday on Saturday tomorrow, in lieu of going to CRO, let me know and I’ll reschedule it on the calendar. Otherwise we’ll try again next month!

Jim has told me he’ll head over to the park if it clears up, so I’m not going to cancel this, but watch the clouds. If it’s cloudy, I doubt any club members will be there.
The clouds parted and I made it out to Arbor Gardens at around 8:30. One family of four was at the park already. We imaged a few DSOs and talked a little astronomy (and fishing). One image of M20 to share. Wrapped things up at 10:30.

I consider any event a sucess if we have even one non-member show an interest in astronomy that they didn’t have before. And I think quite of few of those folks became members. Hopefully the family you met will keep up an interest in astronomy!
