I’ve changed the official start time from 1900 to 1830 for Jan, Feb, and Mar. If we switch back to Daylight Saving Time again (I’m hoping we won’t!) sunset will be close to 2000 in April, so am leaving the start time at 1900 for April and the summer months. We’ll revisit the start time next fall.
I’ve also added the First Saturday as a backup date in case of inclement weather, etc.
As with all our events, please check back here often for updates before you leave for the event!
We had a very nice First Friday last night! The weather was perfect when I got there, but by about 2000 the clouds almost magically formed above us. But we got a good 1.5 to 2 hours of great viewing!
We had a family that had been at one of our events with home schooling groups show up and were very interested in getting involved more in the future. And as we were packing up, a young lady showed up interested in taking night shots with her SONY digial camera.
Thanks, Bill and Gerald for supporting this event, and for Jim, for coming out to check on us!
The next First Friday at Arbor Gardens will be 6 Feb!
Sunset is at 1804. The event is scheduled for 1830-2130, but you can arrive at any time. Several members arrive early to set up. Dress appropriately!
We’re going to be holding TWO First Friday’s this month. This one, at Arbor Gardens, and we’re going to be returning to the Paseo Art District for their First Friday Gallery Walk. If you’re on the south side, please come support the club at Arbor Gardens. If you live on the north side of OKC, consider going to that one. Hopefully we’ll have enough club members volunteer to support both!
If we cannot hold this Friday evening, we’ll try again on Saturday.
I’ll be at Paseo this month. If you plan to go to Arbor Gardens, please post on here you will be there.
We are wrapping things up at First Friday (South).
5:30 pm til 9:00pm 4 club members: Gerald, Casey, Robert, and myself… We had about 10 to 12 people stop by to ask questions, look through the scopes and take some pictures. We had clear skies throughout, it was a little breezy, and a little cold… but NOT too bad for February in Oklahoma. Thanks to everyone that came out!
Liz came out to see us tonight. She had heard about the OKC astronomy club online… and had a task for us. Some kids she had taught, had a star named after her… and she wanted to know if we could find it for her. She had the RA and Declination numbers on her “certificate of ownership”… so we gave it a shot…this is as close as we could get. We let her take the picture herself, and air dropped it to her phone.
Thanks to everyone who went out to Arbor Gardens last night! I’m glad we have enough club members volunteering to support two First Friday Public Viewing events.
That’s a very impressive first image with the S30 Pro, Casey!
