All Members Nights at CRO

I am planning to be out there tonight

8 is fine, Ms. Frizzle. Just be aware that each of your club members will be asked to sign a Liability Release as soon as they enter, unless they’ve signed one before.

Welcome!

CRO is OPEN!

Winds are laying down, the wind turbines are making a right turn towards the south, and the sky is definitely clear

Oh no they haven’t! We will do that! We are on our way! Stuck in traffic rn.

We had 8 guest & 5 members. All enjoyed their time out here

CRO is CLOSED

Skies were crystal clear with almost no wind. It got a little nippy, but everyone was dressed for it.

Guests enjoyed many viewings through the C14. I gave a tour of the dome and 30" while it was still somewhat daylight. No viewing, but scope was uncovered, dome open for demo purpose.

Thanks to Bill for helping by mopping floors in the main building! Guests were impressed with most everything the building has to offer.

Grass is officially growing, and mowing is planned for sometime during the upcoming week.

The next OKCAC All Member night at CRO is tomorrow Saturday, May 9th.

Sunset is at 8:28pm and the Moon rises at 2:54am. I’m not going to make it out for this one.

If you’re planning to come out, please post on here that you are going.

I’ll be unable to make it out this weekend as well.

I’ll make it out. May just bring my own scope this time. The 30" dome shutter is damaged inside (Yes, Chris knows about it).

I took a look at the Pro Dome (Arthurton Dome) last weekend and we have a couple of problems to address. Not a long term show-stopper but not sure we can get it safely working this weekend.

More on that here: Arthurton Dome (PD-15 ProDome) Maintenance

The weather for Saturday night, looking at current forecasts, will likely have us cancel for this weekend anyway. :frowning:

ill most likely be there

Check back here to make sure CRO will be open before you leave! The forcast for 9-midnight is looking better, but the chances of rain from 6:30-7:30 is now 100%, according to my Weather Underground app. Up to about 0.33" accumulation.

Marv will be posting here if he’s going to open it or not.

If you do go out, I recommend goinng all the way west to N County Road 2500, then go north 2 miles to East County Road 870 and head back east 1.3 miles to CRO. This will keep you on pavement for most of the drive, and ECR 870 handles rain better than the 2 miles of dirt road of either NCR 2520 or 2510. I would stay off both of those.

It looks like it will still be partly cloudy, but maybe it’ll be some clouds, rather than mostly cloudy. I’ve gone out several times when the forecast was party cloudy, and ended up having wonderful viewing! Forecasts are often wrong.

i actually wont be able to make it tonight

Radar indicates a line of storms forming which will impact CRO during travel time, before sunset. As only one member who was going has canceled, I’ve decided NOT to open.

I don’t recommend driving out there through heavy, windy rain. It’s just not safe.

Cloudy nights can turn very good, like Mitche said. Not so much rainy nights!

Regular members are welcome to come out and tour the facility even when overcast. We commit to be open whenever it’s safe.

Thanks for your understanding.

Drat!!!

I officially cancelled it on the club calendar.

The next All Members Night at CRO will be Saturday, 16 May. Sunset is at 2033 and Moonset is at 2058. Going to be a very dark night.

The forecast is for clear skies (yay!) and very warm temps: in the 70s.

Unfotunately, the wind predictions are very high: averaging around 25mph. Gusts could reach 40mph. (It’s springtime in Oklahoma! What can I say?)

Non-CRO members, please check back here to ensure CRO will be open before you leave home to go there!

Unfortunately I’m unavailable this week, hoping for clear skies and calm winds next week!

Have a good time this weekend folks😁

If anyone is planning on opening, and/or going out tomorrow night, please post on here that you are planing to do so!

It’s going to be very windy, so it will not be a good night or scopes on the pads. You might be able to set up in the lee of the building, or inside the 14” room. And of course binoculars or you eyes you got at birth.

I’m planning on coming out. I’ll open if no one else does before I get there. I’ll be there by 2000.

Don’t forget to exit I-40 at Chandler, 5 miles before the usual Geary exit. Or use the NW Passage. Westbound Saturday evening traffic on I-40 is usually heavy and backs up for a couple miles.

I’ll open the C14 if no one else does.
