Dave has updated the Club Calendar with the dates for All Member’s Nights in 2026!
The next All Member’s Nights will be 10 Jan and 17 Jan. We probably won’t have temps like we had over Christmas, so remember to dress for 20 degrees below what the ambient temperature is! And be thankful the club has such a wonderful facility to view the universe, and stay warm while we do it!
Sunset on 10 Jan is at 1740. Way too soon for any reliable forecasts, so check back here for updates!
I would have loved to come out the last time, but it was still too windy. =(
I don’t know if I’ll still be in the area Jan 10, but if so I am going to try to make it!
I am planning to be there! Bringing my dad again and maybe my nephew. Bringing the S50 and the Celestron 8SE, hoping someone can help me with the StarSense auto alignment process on it.
I am planning on coming out tonight, with one person with me. Heading out to hike Roman Nose first! I’m bringing my AWB Newtonian that I’ve got some cool new sights for, I finally learned how to use it properly after lots of members help and time. I’m so grateful to this club, can’t wait to see you all.
I had to start a new login here as I lost access to my old email address.
Sure! The more the merrier! When we reach a couple of hundred, and folks have to start parking out on the road, we might have to cut it off. But so far that hasn’t happened on an AMN.
Please remind me to have all of you to sign liability waivers, if you haven’t already done it since last April. I sometimes forget to have visitors do that.
Yes, you can come out. Most folks bring their own equipment, though there are some scopes there you can use. But you’ll need to know how to use them. There probably won’t be anyone there tonight that will have much time to set them up for you or teach you to use them. But a telescope is not a requirement. We have a lot of folks that come out to just enjoy the darker skies with their eyes, or maybe binoculars.
The weather should be fairly decent tonight. The long range forecast for next week indicates clouds should be light, but you never know.
I will try to open CRO about an hour before sunset, so about 1645 or so. (4:45pm for those of you that still use 12 hour time…
Right now, neither the 14" or 30" will be open. No CRO member trained in their use has indicated they will be out tonight.
There are mixes for hot drinks in the kitchen, and I’ll bring a few snacks folks are welcome to, but if you want more, you’ll need to bring it with you.
If someone has a spare 12v 5a power supply, I can bring my 10" SCT and people can use it for visual.
I was curious what time you get there and was just about to ask, so I’m glad you said! I hope to be there right at the start so I can maximize dark time
We’ve got a good crowd out tonight! About a dozen or more members and guests! The wind died a bit at sunset and is actually pretty pleasant right now. I think it’s going to be a great night of viewing!
Yep … turning out to be a very decent night. S30 & S50 are putting a pretty good stack together that I can share later this week. Can’t wait to see the results
Turned out to be a great night despite some software issues for me. Got 540x20s on IC 434 with the S50. I really enjoyed seeing 3I, Orion, and learning to spot Andromeda in the night sky!
