This years International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN) is on 21 Oct 2023. Any plans on where we should have an event?

is the club planning on hosting any public events in the metro area like we have in the past?

There’s a couple of things coming up. I’ll get one posted later this evening. Going out in a few minutes to do a recon of the site first.

sounds good!

Are you talking about for the Oct 21st International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN)?

Yes

It looks like we’ll be holding an event at CRO that weekend. This will be open to the public.

If someone doesn’t want to go to CRO and wants to host an event in town that would be open to the public, maybe at either Bluff Creek Park, OKC (north) , or Arbor Gardens, Moore (south), post on here you’d like to do so.

I have prior plans that weekend, so won’t be able to attend anything, but will help to organize an event with others committing to run it. I can help with some publicity if nothing else.

Ida and I are planning on going out to Cheddar Ranch Observatory (CRO) for International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN) and the peak of the Orionids meteor shower.

The main event would be the night of Oct 21st for International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN) and into the morning of Oct 22nd for the Orionids meteor shower peak.

So far we have 7-9 visitors requesting to come out. This is now on the calendar as an official event.

About this event

Description of event goes here.

I haven’t heard of any OKC Metro Area events so far.

We are going out to Cheddar Ranch Observatory (CRO) for International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN) and the peak of the Orionids meteor shower.

I’m still planning on coming out, weather permitting. I’ll work with the C14, along with or for anyone else.

Cheddar Ranch Observatory (CRO) for International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN) and the peak of the Orionids meteor shower.

I can open up the dome and get the 30" telescope running since it looks like someone will have the C14 telescope up and running.

We have a group of 7-9 guests coming out so far.

I have invited interested neighbors who came to the eclipse event at my house last Saturday. 4-6, depending.

A couple of them expressed Interested in club membership. I’ll be escorting them out.
ETA 6:30.

Hello, i would like to bring my family out to check out CRO and the event and metor shower. There are 4 of us total, is there anything I need to do, or anything I should know?

Directions are on the calendar. Get here before dark. No white lights. Red lights if you have them. Check your car manual to see how to turn off most of those lights. Don’t use the car remotes that turns on the lights. Hiking boots recommended have lots of sand burrs.

The forecast for tonight is almost perfect viewing weather. Unfortunately tomorrow night is going to be cloudy. If you’re going out, I’d go tonight! I’m headed that way in a few minutes to join Dave and Ida tonight. CRO IS OPEN!

Caution taken. WX is questionable early. Should Clear for the meteor shower later. I’m still coming with guests. At least to appreciate the faculty. Hopefully catching a glimpse through the 14 or 30 between clouds. Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

At CRO. Perfect night to sit out under the stars!

I saw a Orionids meteor last night!
