First Friday Public Observing Night’s at Arbor Gardens 2024

It’s looking like it could break up, I can see occasional sky here. Mostly north and east. The park is SE of me.

Forgot to post the after action of First Friday yesterday.

We had 8 members attend! It cleared up, and we had some great viewing.

We had some folks stop by and show an interest in the club, and we had one gentlemen, with his daughter and grandson, bring his brand new 8” Evolution out. He was hoping for some help on learning how to use it, and several of us helped him set it up and get it going. Gerald was particularly helpful on teaching him how to use the Starsense unit on it. Thanks! Gerald!

All in all, it was a very nice evening!

Me too! I’ve had problems getting there. My wife is much better and I can leave her alone now.

The weather forecasts are fairly good for September’s First Friday at Arbor Gardens Park in Moore! Clear, but might be a tad breezy.

Sunset is shortly before 8. I’m planning on getting there about 7.

It’s a beautiful evening at Arbor Gardens Park! There’s 5 members here, hoping the wind dies a bit at sunset, though it’s not too bad right now.

If you’re in the area, com’on by!

I need assistance with my used Celestron AstroMaster 70. I can’t attach the eye pieces to the telescope tube. I may be missing a part. I will attend this Friday’s meeting and will bring my telescope. I would appreciate if someone who’s familiar with this telescope, please look at my scope and assist and advise me. Thanks.

Hey Paul! Sorry you’re having problems, but I’m sure someone can help you. Several of us that regularly attend First Friday are in the panhandle at the Okie-Tex Star Party, but there should be a couple of members there that can help you.

Please check back here to ensure that others will be attending! It’s also weather dependent, of course, like most club events. If we have to cancel, can you make the monthly club meeting the following Friday? Lot of folks will be able to look at it and advise you there.

I’m wondering if you are missing the diagonal. It would be a l shaped piece that goes into the scope and the eyepieces fit into.

You can get them on Amazon. I should be there Friday if it occurs

Is anyone else besides me going to be there? I can get there about 6:45 and bring my diagonal and eyepieces.

I will have my seestar

I plan on coming tonight and I am glad to help as needed. Gerald.

It’s not looking good for First Friday on November 1. Partly cloudy, a bit windy, and possible rain.

Please check back here to see if we’ll be holding it! The forecasts can change quickly.

The Moore forecast for this evening is partly to mostly cloudy, light winds. Temps in the mid 60s. A good night if it was clear.

What do folks think? Should we hold this tonight with about about 50% cloud cover?

We had a surprisingly good turn out last month, when everyone else was at Okie Tex. I think we should try to keep up the momentum if at all possible. It is no big deal for me to pop out there for a couple of hours tonight, unless it is completely overcast.

Good point, Jim! Let’s keep the momentum going!

I should be there about 7. Not sure what I’ll bring. Probably my Seestar and Vespera Pro. I haven’t been using them that much lately.

It turned out to be a really great night in Moore for observing! The clouds cleared off, no wind and no moon.

The comet 2023 A3 and Saturn made for great viewing.

Rachel, Jim and I were there for the club. We had three young ladies that stopped by that became very enthusiastic about astronomy. They were already making plans to come to OTSP next year. Hopefully that enthusiasm will continue and they’ll become club members!

Love this!!!

The next First Friday Public Observing Night is tomorrow Dec 6th at Arbor Gardens Park in Moore. It looks like there is another event in Norman at the same time. Will someone be covering this event?

Moore and Norman both look to be overcast tomorrow night… unless someone has a better forecast than mine… I will head over to Arbor Gardens if weather permits. I live nearby.
