First Friday Public Observing Night at Arbor Gardens

I was setting up at Arbor Gardens last night… and noticed the sun setting behind two trees… took a quick picture of it. Didn’t really think much about it, but decided to post it on the Seestar community forum… and got a lot of likes on it. So i will post it here too, see what you all have to say… To Joel… I know this looks a lot like your profile pic… i wasn’t

trying to copy you! And for the record I think yours is better.

Wow! I love those types of images, here’s a repost of one I took previously

Taken the night before the April 2024 eclipse.

Weather permitting, we’ll be holding another First Friday at Arbor Gardens Park in Moore this Friday. Sunset is at 1831,

The forecast is not particularly good. About a 50% chance of thunderstorms, with steady winds 10-20, gusts to 35 mph.

Check back here Thursday and Friday for updates. If we can’t hold it on Friday, we’ll try First Friday on Saturday the next evening. But the forecast doesn’t look good for that day, either.

If you live on the north side of OKC, I recommend helping out at Paseo. If you live on the south side, Arbor Gardens park will be closer for you. Last month we had enough members come to both to have great events at both areas.

The forecast hasn’t changed. Partly cloudy skies; winds 20-35mph. The forecast for tomorrow evening is looking good. Clear skies, low winds.

Does anyone want to try to set up tonight for First Friday at Arbor Gardens? I’m going to cancel it about 3 if no one indicates they’re going to be there tonight. If we cancel tonight, we’ll go to our backup plan and hold First Friday on Saturday.

Please post on here if you want to give it a shot. I will not be coming. My smart scopes don’t do well in those winds, regardless of the clouds.

I’m keeping an eye on it. Still seeing a chance for severe weather

I am planning on being at Arbor Gardens tonight. I will at least make an appearance (unless the weather gets crazy). If tomorrow looks better, I will try to make it out then too.

Okay, I won’t cancel tonight, but I will add First Friday on Saturday to the calendar.

I am at Arbor Gardens in Moore. I am estimating 65% cloud cover currently. It appears to moving to the NorthEast. Clearer skies to the SouthWest. Gusty winds. No Tornado sirens at this time. I will stick around for a little while to see if anyone else shows up, and cloud coverage passes,(or until tornado sirens blare!)

Wrapping things up here at Arbor Gardens… Had one student from UCO show up. Eventually the skies cleared up… it was a little windy. I did manage to do some imaging. Tonights pic is the Rosette Nebula.

I’m glad the worst of the weather held off for you and you got some imaging.

The forecast is great for tonight! Clear and calm by about 6 or so, though a tad bit cooler than the last few days; in the 50s.

Sunset is at 6:30. i’m going to try to get there about 6.

It’s been a gorgeous night at Arbor Gardens! Clear skies, almost no wind, but definitely a bit nippy.

We had 5 members and 2 guests. It’s been an all smart scope night, with two S50s, one S30 Pro, and one Odyssey.

The truly amazing thing about last night at Arbor Gardens was that Joel was wearing long pants, with shoes and socks! Not his usual shorts and sandals he wears at CRO all winter long.

No coat though. He didn’t go that far.

Glad you made the long trip south, Joel!

Thanks to all who showed up!
