The archaeological site of Chichen Itza is worth a visit.
However, yes, this image is a fabrication. One source is here:
….where they say, “ Chichén Itzá was not within the strip of greatest visibility, [emphasis mine] however, the site was organized for weekend activities that include talks by expert astronomers. And even at 95.5 percent, the sight was awe-inspiring.
I have learned to trust Google reverse lookup and Snopes.com more than many sources.
Thanks for looking it up, everyone. I usually do that before I post something, but I like this one, so posted it anyway. Some people have WAY too much time on their hands to be creating all the fakes that are out there.
I went to Concan, TX to image the 2023 Annular Eclipse. It was cloudy at the RV Park where I was staying. I was prepared. I had my gear ready so it could be easily transported and setup up quickly. We drove a about 45 miles north on US 83 to an intersection that looked like a good spot. We setup and before long several other folks stopped and setup their equipment or just stopped to see what was going on. It was clearing and I felt like I had just enough time to get everything working before the eclipse was going to start. I got everything working took several practice pictures and was ready to roll with just a few minutes before it started. I was breathing a sigh of relief. I was not completely automated. Had my 400 mm telephoto lens and Canon 70D on my SkyWatcher GTi mount. Decided to take exposures every minute. I was using my watch as my timer and remote clicker to take the pictures. With all of the commotion and folks asking questions my images are not exactly one minute apart. I am happy with the images that I took. Also I was not perfectly aligned so I had to occasionally center the sun. The next problem as the eclipse moved into its final stage some clouds rolled in and they made the eclipse difficult to image clearly. This is a short timelapse of all my images. It is 170 images at a 1 minute interval. It not is not perfect but I am so tickled that I was able to do this. My plan was to have the 2023 eclipse be my practice run for 2024. I hope with this practice run I will be ready for 2024.
Let me know what you think.
The same thing happened to me at the 2017 total eclispse. I set up my tiny telescope in the parking lot of the Kearny MO fire department, and folks started pulling in asking if they could set up there, too! By totality we had about 20 folks there.
I took the liberty of running your animation through PIPP to center all the frames. This is what came out. Animation would have come out much better if I was working with the original image files.
Russ,
I followed your instructions and have made a gif file with PIPP. It looks pretty good, I still have a small amount of wobble, but that is understandable with my conditions. I have edited the previous post. I was able to figure out how reduce the file size and the Pause/Play appears to be added by the discourse program.
Here is my latest attempt thanks to Russ and the PPIP program.
Mitche the PIPP program works pretty good. I had never heard of it. Thanks to Russ I looked into it and followed his setting suggestions.
Andy I was actually within 90 miles of you in Texas. I was south and east of you. With cloudy conditions at my location I headed north on 83 toward Junction Texas, but decided that I didn’t enough time to travel that far and get set up in time.
I really like all of the posts about the eclipse. Everyone did a great job. It was a treat to see all of the images from the OKC area and all of the neat setups. I will definitely look into some of them for the next eclipse in 2024.
I have made a video mp4 file of my Eclipse timelapse in photoshop. I was not able to post it on the forum, so I put a link to my Flickr page. Not sure if this will work? A gif file just didn’t do justice, so I reverted to Photoshop for making a video that allow transitions, music.
If this doesn’t work let me know and I will delete this reply from the forum. Or the administrator can delete if necessary.
