All Members Nights at CRO

I’m here and will be watching for you. Waive as you come in!

CRO is now closed.

We had a very nice evening for observing! We had about a dozen folks out and the weather cooperated completely, clearing around sunset with the wind blowing just enough to keep the bugs away!

Hopefully next month will be more of the same. We’ve had to cancel so many AMNs this spring it was good we finally had a great evening.

And thanks JBro for the chocolate muffins! Delicious!

Did my first Milky Way shot with the S30 Pro and then had some fun using it as the background in PhotoShop!

The next All Members Night at CRO is this Saturday, 8 August.

Sunset is at 2031 and moonrise is at 0254 Sunday morning. The moon will be Waning Crescent, 11.9%.

The forecast is looking good! Predicted clear skies, moderate winds, and very warm. 96F around 2000, and only down to 87F by midnight.

I may not make it, plans are in flux right now, but it looks like it will be a really good night to be at CRO!!!

I plan to be there for All Member Night,

Another great Milky Way opportunity for visual and photography!

The grounds are in fine condition, thanks to our mowing teams.

Comet Temple 2 might be visible with telescopes and/or camera setups.

The forecast for AMN tomorrow is looking good! It might be a bit windier than we’d like on the pads, but the 14" and 30" should provide some great viewing if someone will open them.

I’ll come out and open the C14, if no one else does first.

Absent a major miracle from Chris P, the 30" dome is not functional. But I’ll be happy to let anyone inside to see the telescope.

I may bring my own rig to set up on a pad, also.

Comet 10P/Temple 2 should be rising about 9:55. But it won’t get high enough for the C14 until after 2:30 am. But by 11 pm it should be up about 10.5 degrees in the SE.

Clear (low wind) skies!

Baring unforeseen attacks from recently released gremlins, I will be there this evening. I just need to catch up with everyone, and maybe grab some Milky Way pics. 10P/Temple 2 would be nice as well.

I was going to ditch my relatives and come out, but before I could, they ditched me with other plans. Plans that did not include me (thank goodness). So I’m getting ready to head out tonight.

I’m going to stop by Swadley’s in El Reno for dinner and any one is welcome to join me there. I want to get to CRO by 8, so need to leave Swadley’s by 7, so I will get there about 6:15-6:30.

If any new folks want a guide, meet me there and you can follow me. I’ll wear my blue OKCAC hat so you can spot me if you don’t know me.

Or you can put “Cheddar Ranch Observatory” in either Apple Maps or Google Maps and that will guide you there, too.

I will be attending tonight with a few family members. We’re gonna try to get to CRO by around 8:20! See you all there!

We had a great, if windy, evening at CRO!

We had 6 club members and 9 guests/prospective members out enjoying the night skies!

Thanks Marv, for opening the 14" and helping others to view objects through it!

I left early, as it was a bit windy for my light smart scopes, but everyone else was going strong when I left!

CRO is closed. 19mph gusting to 25 at 1:30.

Thanks Mitche, Dave and Jeremy for hanging out with all of us and the new guests.

I think I saw Temple 2 as a wisp in the C14 once it rose high enough. Bob, another new member saw it too. Not much of a tail.

I tried to imagine comet 10P after I got home but too windy in my back yard, too. And looks very windy for the next week at least. Steady 15-20mph, with much higher gusts.

Is anyone going out Saturday night? Caleb and I want to go out, but it’s been so long since we’ve been out that we don’t remember the routines for opening and lockup. Have any of the public pads been spoken for for this weekend?

Yes, I’ll be going out and probably others. It’s an All Member Night so the gates and building should be open by 7:30pm. One of us can remind you of the routines.

Watch the Events thread for Member Night posts. You can always post there.

Thank you! I got my nights mixed up and thought this was a cro only night. Thanks!
