Very nice! I also got the Flame Nebula last night with my Odyssey, which has a much smaller FOV, so didn’t get the Horsehead with it. 62 minutes of 4 second subs. No additional processing.
I love it when different scopes get the same object, so we can compare the differences, strengths and weaknesses, of each. The S50 has the wider FOV, and is brighter and may show a bit more fine details, but the nebula is much smaller. The Odyssey zooms in on the nebula, but doesn’t capture the brilliance as well (at least without post-processing).
Oh yeah! Processing can definitely bring out the color and make it more vibrant! Some day I’ll learn to do that… Dave Cox keeps chastizing me for not processing my images.
It was great to finally get out and meet some people since I haven’t been able to make it to any events in town yet. Y’all will be happy to hear that I’m pretty sure I fixed my mount. Sad to say, I probably could have fixed it on site last night in about 5 minutes had I only put in the effort, lol. Oh well. Fingers crossed that next week will be clear because while I was packing up last night I learned what caused the mishap that damaged the mount in the first place, so I will never make that mistake again. I need one more night out there while I’m still in the area!!
The next OKCAC All Member night at CRO is on Saturday, Jan 17th.
Sunset is at 5:46pm and it’s a new Moon. I’m coming out with my SeeStar S50. I can open up the C14. Will be testing out a heated vest I got for Christmas.
If you’re planning to come out, please post on here that you are going.
I will not be able to open CRO tomorrow, though I might be able to get out there later. Is there a CRO member who will commit to opening the observatory tomorrow?
I will be there, hopefully right before sunset. I have my mount fixed from last time and a new focuser. Very excited to actually shoot something with the RASA this time.
I plan on being there just before sunset. I’m bringing my nephew with me — he just started an astronomy class, and for the first time he’s like, “Wait… this is actually COOL.” So now all the stargazing / astrophotography stuff I’ve been nerding out about suddenly has credibility.
If the sky cooperates, I’m hoping to give him a fun first “real observing” night: see a few bright showpieces and learn a little about how to find things,
