Are we affiliated with - or do we even know about - the Texas Tech Observatory? It doesn’t show up on Google maps when you search “observatory” so I didn’t hear about it until a local told me about it.
We are not affiliated with them. We did get 2 of there old 15’ domes that they were planning to trash.

That is a great facility. I heard about it several years ago and finally went there last October. The sky isn’t quite as dark as it is at Okie-Tex, but the sky is very dark there - and it’s only a 3 ½ hour drive. Most months they have a public star party on the Saturday nearest new moon. I was there last October during the star party. They had a presentation on black holes given by a Texas Tech grad student. After dark, they had people manning two large obsession telescopes plus their 15” refractor in the large dome. The facility director told me that for the star party weekends, the cabins and bunkhouses are usually booked a few months on advance, but the tent camping area and the RV spots area are rarely, if ever full.
