STEM Outreach Event at Washington Irving Elementary 11-Apr-25

Headline: Washington Irving Elementary Spring Fling Teacher/Parent/Student night.

April 11th 2025 starting at 7:30 pm

Washington Irving Elementary School
18101 N Western Ave., Edmond, OK 73012

Parents, Teachers, and Students have social event and they have invited OKC Members who would like to bring their telescopes for a STEM event viewing.

Their spring fling will end ~8pm and they can stay later on this Friday evening to view Jupiter, Orion, Sirius, Betelgeuse, M45, and many other neat viewing targets. You should park on the south side parking area which is closest to 2nd street (Edmond Rd.) and the back of that area is a gate that leads to a large grassy area where we can set up telescopes for the viewing. You can contact Randy Collica for more info at rscollica@aol.com or my cell is (603) 425-3276

Just to let you know that falls on a Club meeting night.

Yeah, probably not going to get many folks for this on a club meeting night.

But hopefully a few folks will volunteer to help with the STEM event! We’ve supported several STEM events and they’re always fun!

It’s a date night with my wife, as all Friday’s are. But it’s our anniversary week, and we’re going out for a very $$$$$ dinner earlier in the week, so i will lobby for an exception. These school outreach events are fun and rewarding. I hope other members will come, even if I’m outvoted.

Yeah, I get that but that is the night the school is having their spring fling with parents, students, and teachers. I didn’t pick that date.

Yeah, that’s not under our control. Please let them know that if we don’t get anyone to support it, that’s the reason why.

If anyone else goes, let me know, and I will go to help them. I missed last meeting and would like to be at the next one. However, I love talking to younger generations about it.

I’ll definitely be there as I’ve done this for Washington Irving for a couple of years.

Since the meeting on the 11th is virtual, those of you who might want to come out to the STEM energy I mentioned above at Washington Irving elementary, there should be about a 100 or more at their Spring Fling which ends at 7:30 and those who want to stay for Astro viewing can do so. So far I will be going and perhaps one other; we could use a couple more if you are so inclined for this outreach. Thank you - Randy
