Tested out the new 4k mode on the Seestar S50. Looks like you have to turn it back on before each picture. The one on top is the regular picture and the one on the bottom is the 4k picture. The 4k picture is twice the size of the regular picture.
Huh. I’m not seeing much difference. If anything, I think the ‘regular’ image looks a bit sharper.
Thanks for the comparison, Dave!
The last couple of SeeStar S30/S50 updates add some new features.
The last update added 4 new catalogs and now the 4k mode will stay selected until you turn it off.
The latest update V2.7.0 adds a remote control option. You can log into the Telescope Network to be able to run the SeeStar from almost anywhere. Listed as Beta Trial use. Testing it out now looks like it might come in handy. Now I don’t need to be within so many feet from the SeeStar.
The latest update V3.0.0 has added support for S30 Pro. This update has added new features. I installed it on my iOS devices and everything seems to be working well. I have read several comments from people having issues after installing on Android devices. The Android devices keep asking to install the new firmware over and over again. Has anyone installed it on an Android device yet? If not you might want to wait until the next bug fix version to come out. One nice thing added under Objects is Constellation’s. Once you select a Constellation it shows you a list of objects within the Constellation.
Just installed the latest update V3.0.2 which fixed a focus issue on the S30 Pro. It improved remote connection stability. I’ve been using the remote feature and works well on my home network. Got it connected at CRO and works for a while until it needs to reconnect. It says it is online just will not reconnect. Maybe this update will fix that issue. This was mainly a bug fix. Setup last night working on M1. Got my polar alignment down to zero. Left the tripod outside last night and marked the leg position to make setup quicker. Will try M1 again only got 2 hours last night had some wind gusts. Testing out stacking 2 days of data for the first time.
Thanks for the updates on the Seestars! It was too gusty here last night, but I’ll be out tonight. Should be great viewing tonight! Gotta get it in before the snow and cold this weekend!
They just came out with an update for the SeeStar V3.1.0 sounds like it might solve some of the recent issues. Not sure I will be able to test it out tonight with this wind. Monday looks good though.
Thank you for the update(s), Dave
Yes, thanks. I’ll us this cloudy and windy night to get the scopes updated.
Imaging M44 with the S30 Pro 30 second subs. After one hour had one dropped frame. Doing M67 with the S50 had to go down to 10 second subs after 30 minutes dropped 30 frames.
So they just came out with an update V3.1.2 that is supposed to fix the Moon stacking issue. I tried stacking an old Moon video just to see if it fixed the issue on my S30 Pro. It still came out pink looking they called it purple. Will have to try another video once the clouds go away to see if it has something to do with the video instead of the stacking.
