Thanks to the club, the Rosette Nebula is the states Deep Sky Object. Captured here in narrow band, the object is located in Monoceros at a distance of 5,200 light years. Although it looks like a planetary nebula due to the center hole, it’s actually a star forming region centered on the open cluster NGC 2244. The energy from these young hot stars is ‘blowing’ the molecular nebulosity away from the cluster. thus creating the hole. I made this image using a Tak FC100D and monochrome CCD with NB filters. The total exposure is nine hours.

Beautiful. Star-forming regions never get old. Sculptures on the grandest scale, cut out of the primal medium, glowing with the energy from forging new elements.
Wow!! Beautiful work
