Rod Gallagher, a long time volunteer at OTSP and a member of OKCAC has passed away. He was 72. Rod was an accomplished astrophotographer who was always willing to share his knowledge and help others in both astrophotgraphy and visual observing. He was one of several that contributed to the construction of Okie-Tex Hall at Camp Billy Joe. He missed 2025 OTSP with a cardiac event that left him hospitalized with complications until his passing on 12-31-25. I offer his family and many friends my condolonces.
We’ll miss him. RIP.
I have wondered why I did not see Rod at 2025 OTSP. I talked with him several times at CRO and OTSP. He was always glad to share his knowledge & experience. He presented many good programs at OKCAC meetings. Rod’s presentation several years ago on the Astronomical League Observing Programs really motivated me to pursue completing several of those programs. Rod will certainly be missed.

That is terrible sad news. He is the reason that I can do digital astrophotography. His posts and discussions were educational and his photos were inspiring. They still are and always will be. He was a blessing to our community and his passing leaves an ache in my heart.
The service for Rod will be livestreamed and a link to view will be sent out closer to the time of the service.
my goodness …i have no words. im praying for his family
The memorial service and livestream for Rod has already occurred earlier today. Thankfully a recording has been made available from a link on the obituary site posted earlier today.
For ease of reference, here’s a link to Rod’s personal website which includes a host of images he made over the years.
