Hello there! We’re newcomers this year to the Okie-Tex star party coming out from Southern California, and we’re very excited to join in the fun!
Quick logistics questions:
curious if anyone has used StarLink out there to work remotely during the day? If so, what was your experience like for video calls etc? Hoping the clear skies will be in our satellite favor for this, but wanted to see if anyone had any prior exp.
Is there any refillable potable water supply on site or should we be prepared to bring enough water for the entire week?
I’m sure that you will enjoy the dark skies. There will be plenty of like minded people around.
Ice, water, and other drinks are available at the camp’s main building. I keep a case of bottled water at my site for convenience.
I haven’t used StarLink direct to cell service, but it is currently only providing texting and location functions. OkieTex offers free WiFi. AT&T has good cellular service. I have made video calls in the North Field, but I would not rely on the video function for an important business meeting. Verizon service has been a problem in past years.
StarLink trains flying over often cause excitement. The excitement is not because of better communication; but rather because it is an interesting and dynamic sky event to watch.
When you say refillable potable water supply I’m thinking you are taking about a camper? We fill our camper up in Boise City. You will most likely be passing through Clayton NM which might have a place to fill up. As far as drinking water we always bring several water jugs.
I have not used StarLink. We did some testing to see if it was something we could use before they put in GB fiber. If you are already using StarLink it should work just as well as it does in CA.
I am new to RV’ing. This is my first trip. When you say, “Fill up in Boise City”… is there a place that I can go and just get 60 gallons of water? I don’t understand RV logistics yet. I was going to fill up at the RV park I stay at on Thursday night, but it would be better to fill up in Boise City, if that is possible.
