OCCC Astronomy Club Observation Nights

I’ll still be there, doing what I can. See you soon

Dave, Joel and I are on the south side of the John Massy Center. Don’t see anyone else. Are we in the right spot?

This location turned out to be very good. Large open field and plenty of parking. Got off to a bit of a late start. There was a 10” Dob, 8” SE SCT, 2 Seestar S50 and an EV scope. Great views of the South sky. The Moon was looking great. Looked at Saturn. Took some pictures of some deep sky objects. I think we had about 25 people there. Here is an iPhone photo taken through the 8” SE eyepiece.

Dave is spot on. It was a very successful viewing session and I think a great first night observation session for the OCCC Astronomy Club. I got images of the moon (slightly out of focus), Altair, M8 - Lagoon Nebula, and M17 - Omega Nebula. I also showed them how I do science observations by capturing 10 min of data on T CrB for the SETI Institute.

Bobie, several folks there wanted copies of the images I got. Please let them know they can download them here. Thanks!

I’ll also post the results I got of the science observation of T CrB when I get them from SETI. Probably later today.

It was great seeing a sizable crowd and them showing a lot of interest :+1:

Thanks for taking a general picture, Joel! I usually forget to do that.

Here are the results we get after uploading the data on Science Observations to SETI. A general page specific to my observation; a graph of all the observations Unistellar Citizen Scientists have made of T CrB, and the last one is the different magnitudes of the star over the course of my observation. (I think. I’ve never had that one explained to me.)

Ok. Some great reports! Wish I could have been there.

I never saw this thread because I got sick right after. Thank you so much, guys. We can’t wait to see you on 12/4
