Hi JBro, it was so nice meeting you at CRO on Saturday evening. Tue the 29th looks like a good forecast for evening viewing with clear skies and low wind. I may bring my scope to Mitch park field behind the Y on the north side.

That sounds like a great plan. I would love to bring out my 8SE as well and get some tips on using the phone with it. I do have something to hold the iPhone over the eye piece but I have never used it. My dad wants to join as we are learning this together and hopefully to eventually use his DSLR on it. But I’m new to the scope at all, including calibration and all that jazz, I got it up and running the other night successfully using a WiFi portal with the Sky Portal app. What time were you thinking? I read that Mars will pass close to the crescent moon AND there will be two meteor showers at the same time, the Southern Delta Aquarlids and the Alpha Capricornids.
Hi JBro,
I’ll probably head out there around 9pm as it is certainly light enough to get set up, etc. Just to reiterate the directions; head north on Western and turn right on W Covell Rd. Then turn left on N Santa Fe and the first right will be a small street sign Kitefest Ln. My red Mazda CX5 will be parked on the side a little ways up that curvy street. My Starry Night Pro from Celestron also shows that as well, however, Mars will be a fair ways away from the crescent Moon; about 14 deg by the program’s calculations. If you use binoculars you might see them both but in the telescope one would need a really ultra wide low mag eyepiece for that.
Hope to see you and your Dad out there.
Randy
We will be there!
See you all then Jessica. / Ra dy
Hi Jessica, it was fun last evening with you and your Dad and we covered a good deal of astro stuff. Attached is the book I was telling you about - The Backyard Astronomer’s Guide 4th ed. It is available on Amazon and probably other platforms as well. Have fun on your trip(s) while on vacation.
All the best, /Randy
Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with me and help me get to know my telescope better. I really appreciated the way you explained things, it made the whole experience, fun and informative. I walked away feeling much more confident with my scope, and I’m excited to get out under the stars again soon! Thank you for sharing the book. I’m definitely going to look into it.
It looked like you had some great skies last night. Sorry I had to miss it. I would have loved to had made it out there. How are the skies at that location as far as light pollution?
It was my pleasure Jessica. BTW - M7 is Ptolemy’s Cluster, however, M45 is the seven sisters and can be viewed in the mornings around 4-5am. My error.
Well, the field due north of Mitch Park is estimated at a Bortle 5 whereas where I live in Edmond it is Bortle 6. So, light pollution is somewhat less.
