McDonald Observatory 9/27/24

8-panel pano at McDonald Observatory, Fort Davis, Texas on 9/27/24. 9:25pm - 10:28pm.

20mm prime lens at F2.8, ISO-1600, 2-minutes per sub, 3 subs per panel stacked. 4 sky panels on tracking mount (AM5 mount), 4 ground panels stationary. Blended sky and ground, taken back to back immediately for accuracy.

Just saw you latest posts on FLICKR. Really Great pictures. You stacked a huge number of pictures on the NGC 6820 and NGC 6823 picture. Great Work.

Thanks, Marvin. Yeah, it may seem like a lot of subs, but to me, it’s worth it. I like to keep imaging the same area until I can zoom in and the image doesn’t fall apart.

That seems to be the only way I can stand out among thousands of other images. I just keep exposing until empty space disappears, and I can zoom in and zoom in as much as I want. Dithering, then 2 x drizzle in Pixinsight, is the secret.
