M42 - The Orion Nebula

This is about 4 hours of LRGB integration.

Equipment used:

  • Apertura Carbon Star RC 8" telescope (1600mm) that needs collimation.

  • QHY600M full-frame camera

  • QHY filter wheel with LRGB+ha Chroma Filters (Note this image is only LRGB)

  • ZWO ASI174mm/

  • Warp Astron WD20 harmonic drive mount

I’ve processed this again, a bit different this time by stretching in Pixinsight rather than Photoshop in an effort to become more proficient in Pixinsight. While I like the dynamic aspect of the over-saturated original image, I also like some of the details around the dark clouds.

This is the first image (other than some shots of the moon with a DSLR attached) I’ve taken with this telescope and it has me excited to go out and get more. I need to collimate it as I think that was part of my focus issues but I’m still very happy with the results from a beginner’s eye.

That does not look like a beginner’s image to me! Very nice. Both of them.

I am always amazed by these photos, whether they be professional or by me or anywhere in between.
