International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN) at Science Museum Oklahoma on 14 Sep 2024. Will start at 7pm until 10pm. The Moon rises at 5:52pm and Sunset is at 7:38pm. Saturn rises at 7:21pm.
No registration required. Will setup in the circle area in front by the main entrance.
International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN) is an annual worldwide public event that encourages observation, appreciation, and understanding of our Moon and its connection to NASA planetary science and exploration. Everyone on Earth is invited to join the celebration by hosting or attending an InOMN event — and uniting on one day each year to look at and learn about the Moon together.
SMO will also have different activities set up to go along with the telescope observations. These include:
an Apollo-era artifact table including moon boots and other artifacts
tactile lunar topography maps
a button crafting station, draw what you saw on the moon and turn it into a button
a moth tarp with one of our educators talking about how insects use the moon in their day-to-day lives
a fun crater simulation activity using flour and coco powder
These activities will be facilitated by planetarium and SMO staff, along with apprentices, but if club members would like to help out with some of the activities they are welcome to!
Also, the front lobby of the museum will be open to allow access to restrooms.
SMO created a Facebook event for the evening, and right now 12 people have said they are going to the event, and 136 said they were interested. Has the club done any other kind of promotion for the event? I’m just curious how many people we could expect that evening.
I’m not sure about the okcastroclub. However, I’m Secretary of the OCCC Engineering club and VP of an OCCC art club which celebrates all forms of art mediums, including photography. I’m posting about it in my groups.
