Hubble 35 Year Anniversary Observing Challenge- January 2025

In order to celebrate 35 years of Hubble Space Telescope operation, NASA and the Astronomical League are holding an Observing Challenge throughout the year. Sorry that I’m a bit late to post the details for others (since you’ll have missed January, although the targets are still visible in the coming weeks, and submission is available through the following month). Details are available on the NASA website and the AL website (scroll down past the Parker Solar Probe challenge).

I figured I’d share my targets for January:

  • M42 & M43 (The Great Orion and De Mairan Nebulae)
  • M78 (Reflection nebula)
  • M79 (Globular cluster)
  • Caldwell 46 (Hubble’s Variable Nebula)

I’ve included the Hubble images alongside my own, and marked the Hubble’s Field of View in my shots. Definitely makes you appreciate Hubble all the more!
