Homeschooling Support Monday 10 Nov

The OKCAC will be supproting Barefoot University Forest School, a homeschooling group, with their Astronomy Education module. There will be about 34 kids and 25-40 adults attending. This even will be at Bluff Creek on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 5:30 - 7:30pm.

We would like to have several OKCAC club members there with telescopes, binoculars, planispheres, apps, or just your presence to help these kids learn about the universe. Please reply to this post if you will be able to assist with this event!

Activity: Night Sky Treasure Hunt

Tonight, you will be on a treasure hunt in the night sky. You can find many different and exotic objects found in our galaxy that contribute to the formation of stars and planets. Travel from different points and hunt for these amazing objects.

  1. Before your hike, take a moment to make a constellation bead to decorate your star card tag ring with glow in the dark beads and string before returning them onto your backpack.
  2. Barefooters will use their Night Sky Treasure Hunt printable to look for objects on the list that you see in the night sky. Note: Not all objects needed for the Treasure Hunt are visible in the sky in every location/all year round.
  3. Hike in the dark and mark off as many different items as you can.

FYI, I already have plans that evening, so will not be able to attend personally. Though I might be able to show up for a few minutes at the start. I’m hoping we can get at least 3 other club members to commit to supporting this event. It should be fun!

I plan to be there probably by 4:30 -4:45. LoL, not sure how much help I’ll be after dark! For those of you who don’t know, I am considered deaf.

Can we visit with them about changing to a different date?

No. They’re doing it with or without our support.

Thanks to Dave Cox, Ed Averyt, and Joel Cody for supporting this event this evening! I stopped by for a few minutes at the beginning and it got a bit crazy with all the kids of all ages! But most of them seemed very interested in astronomy. I hope we were able to instill some wonder of the universe into some of them!
