First Friday Public Observing Night’s at Arbor Gardens 2025

First Friday Public Observing Night’s at Arbor Gardens for 2025.

Weather permitting, we’ll meet at Arbor Gardens Park, 1695 SW 34th St, in Moore, towards the east end of the parking lot, near the walkway.

These events are for club members to get together to observe in the metro area, for prospective members and the general public. If you need help with equipment, or general observing, that will be available, too!

The next First Friday Public Observing Night is January 3, 2025 at Arbor Gardens Park in Moore. Sunset is at 5:31pm and the Moon sets at 9:41pm. It will be a good time to view Venus, Saturn and Jupiter.

I was thinking of getting there around 5:30pm and bringing my 8” EdgeHD to do some planet viewing. Is anyone planning on coming out?

I am planning on getting to Arbor Gardens between 6-6:30. Traffic is just too bad for me to get there earlier. Hopefully we’ll have some clear skies for observing!

I probably will stay until about 8 or so.

Dress for the cold if you’re coming out!

Thanks, y’all. I plan to be there and look forward to meeting everyone.

I’ll also load up my 8” dobsonian and other gear, but please let me know if there’s anything else I can bring for the good of the cause.

LoL, I won’t be there this evening, but I bet there’s one thing people might enjoy… Hot coffee or Cocoa LoL :rofl::rofl:

First half of evening should be fairly clear and a mild breeze. At least that’s what I’m seeing predicted. You definitely want to dress warm.

I’m here and the sky is clear. Only one truck here.

Pulling out of the driveway should be there in 15 min

We had a great First Friday of the new year today!

There were several of the regulars there; Rachel, Gerald and Dave H. Thanks to all!

One new club member, Chris C, was there. And we had Chris’ friend Robert, and the Banad family of four that said they’d be joing soon!

Viewing was good, if a bit chilly. It was a great start to observing in 2025!

Hi! I help organize events for our Tiger Cubs of Pack 120 Cub Scouts from Christ the King Catholic School in OKC. We have between 4 to 5 scouts (and their parents) planning on coming out to the First Fridays event on Feb 7 so they can work towards earning their Sky is the Limit Adventure Loop. Before we send out a reminder to parents, I wanted to confirm the event was still taking place? What is the best time to arrive?

The next First Friday Public Observing Night is Feb 7th at Arbor Gardens Park in Moore. Sunset is at 6:05pm and the Moon will already be up. It will be a good time to view Saturn, Neptune, Venus, Uranus, Jupiter and Mars.

Mary Ann it will be great to have you and the Tiger Cubs out at the event.

I will make it out weather permitting. Going to pass going out tonight. It doesn’t look like there is going to be any clearing.

We will definitely be there - the scouts are super excited!

The weather is looking fairly good for the next First Friday on 7 Feb. Maybe a few scattered clouds. Winds about 5mph. Temps in the high 40s.

Remember to dress for the high 20s! We’ll just be standing around stargazing, not generating much energy.

I plan to get there around 7pm.

At least 5 very excited Cub Scouts will be there. We’ll be doing a night sky scavenger hunt!

The weather forecast is about the same. Hopefully we’ll be able to get some viewing in despite a few clouds!

I can’t make it tonight. I hope it clears off and you have great views

I am getting ready to head over to Arbor Gardens. Not expecting to get in any viewing tonight, as it is completely overcast in Moore at the present time. I will be there for about an hour or so, just in case someone shows up.

Thanks Jim, Joel, and Gerald for being there at Arbor Gardens tonight and talking with the scouts. The forecasters definitely got it wrong this evening. Partly cloudy my rear end.

And get well, Rachel!

Is there a First Friday observing event at Arbor Gardens on Friday, March 7th? If so what time? A teacher at Brink JHS wants to bring his classes. Sunset for set-up?

The forecast for our First Friday Public Observing Night at Arbor Gardens Park in Moore this Friday, Mar 7, is for clear and cool. The winds may be a bit challenging, at about 10mph or so.

We will start at 7pm and go till at least 9, though sometimes folks will get there a bit earlier. I’ll try to get there between 6:30 and 7:00, but i’m coming from a ways away and traffic on Friday evening can be challenging.

We should have quite a few folks there, as we’re expecting some middle school classes, from Norman I believe. So we can use all the club members we can get there with their scopes, binoculars, or just your bodies and minds!

And spread the word! This event is for anyone and everyone!
