First Critter at OTSP 2023

My first critter here other than flies and grasshoppers. Deadly???

Was right above the door handle to the new building.

I would guess it’s a juvenile Texas/Oklahoma brown spider (tarantula). Not venomous but would leave a nice puncture wound. Quite common this time of year since migration is from August through October. How big was it?

It was tiny. Hence the poor picture. Had the magnification up on my phone and got as close as I dared, but still didn’t get a goos shot of it.

I usually see several tarantulas here, but so far this year, nada. If this was one, it was a newborn.

You’re right. It was probably a baby. Check your bed before turning in!

Always. And I shake out my shoes and boots before putting them on.

Ex-military? I did the same thing while stationed at NKP Thailand way back when. Old habits die hard.

Yep. Retired Army.

This little guy was hopping on my trap. He is a Chihuahuan Green Toad according to what I found on the internet. An experienced biologist may correct me if I am incorrect. Never seen one before.

I’d rather have him nearby than a tarantula.

He was pretty small. Over at Black Mesa some turkeys crossing the road.
