Annular/Partial Solar Eclipse 14 Oct 2023

I thought I’d transferred them to here. My bad.

Just found this “Sky’s Up” magazine. This issue is an excellent resource for annular eclipse information!

I’ll be out at CRO all day, come on out!

There is an event at SMO. Got on email on it today. Will post it by tomorrow.

I’m still planning on going to New Mexico.

Wish i could join you!

Safe travels all

Haven’t heard anything about the Club solar telescope. Is it going to get used by anyone for this event?

I didn’t know we had one.

If it’s available I’ll run it :grin::+1:

If you’re not leaving OKC to view the annular eclipse on 14 Oct, please consider going to view it at the Science Museum of Oklahoma! Their event will start at 1000, so you should be there to set up, if you’re bringing solar viewing equipment, about 0930 or earlier.

If someone is going to be there and would volunteer to be the club POC to the museum staff, please let me know! Otherwise when you get there, check in with Waylon Troyer, or any of the museum staff, to find out where you can set up.

Please post on here if you’re going to go there to view the partial eclipse so we can let Waylon know about how many will be representing the club that day.

“LS60THa Hydrogen-Alpha Solar Telescope, f/8.3, Focal Length 500mm…”

I’ve just looked at the inventory on the club’s website and it’s depicted as “checked out.”

Unfortunately, some things get checked out and kept for a very long time. I’m not sure who has it.

I last checked it out in November 2021. Chris will know where it is.

Safe travels all!, I know some of you are heading out today (if you haven’t left already lol).

Made it to Boerne today. Found two different sites right next to the hotel that will be great for viewing! Forecast is partly cloudy in the morning, starting to clear around 10; clear by noon. So hopefully I’ll have a great view of the ring of fire, if not the whole eclipse. Might be a tad windy, so brough my windscreen. Will probably set it up tomorrow JIC.

I hope everyone else traveling to the path is doing well and has clear skies!

I am heading out today. Planning on Artesia, NM by tonight.

Hi! If you’re not going outside to the see the eclipse, or are not in the path of annularity and want to stream the ring of fire live, the SETI Institute is hosting the event live on a YouTube channel.

It will start at 1000 Saturday, and run until 1300, if I’ve got my time zone calcs right.

I will be live on the channel from Boerne, TX, at 1200-1205 CDT, minutes after the ring of fire ends here.

I was kinda regretting committing to Boerne, as it’s further off the centerline than I wanted, but watching the local weather today I may have lucked out. At the time of annularity, it looks like it’s going to be cloudy west of here around the centerline. Boerne looks like it’s going to be clear, at least for the ring of fire, if not for the partial beforehand.

:crossed_fingers:

Just got permission from the owner of the property next door to the hotel to set up my windscreen, so all is a go for the morning! Just hoping the clouds cooperate!

Just checked the weather for NM and it looks like they’re going to have the same problem with partly cloudy skies. I hope it clears for all our folks there, too!

I’m hosting a driveway event for my cul-de-sac. AZ 102 manual (it’s almost 20 year old), and C8 on AVX. My neighbors see me out often.

Wind permitting!!

If I’m not exhausted, will come to CRO in the evening.

Last night I was set up at the Caverns of Sonora TX, nice dark sky, and imaged there all night. Today, I moved to a location I found that is in an opening, back off the Interstate, that puts me dead-line center-line. The interstate dips down in a valley below me, no highway noise and it’s a great spot for an impromptu-tu eclipse. My brother Vince is coming to meet me here this evening. I practiced shooting the Sun today at 3 different focal lengths, the darn Sun can be more challenging than you think. Remember to change your tracking rates to solar!

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!
