A New Park Manager for Black Mesa State Park has been named!

I’m trying to remain positive here, folks!
Joe just saw a FB note from one of his friends - an Oklahoma birder. Her son was just named the new Park Manager at Black Mesa State Park - Dillon Cochran. Dillon is the current maintenance tech at Little Sahara State Park. Joe said he is a decent birder (one of eBird’s top in Woods County). How interested he will be in the Dark Skies International designation remains to be seen. However, Joe knows him and feels very positive about him. He is a good photographer and may already know a lot about optics and scopes. It’s time to get with Amber Harrison at DSI and learn what we need to know for the park to maintain designation. When we learn more I’ll share more for those of you who are interested.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed!!!

How is that spot different than Polly’s?

He replaced Polly.
Polly no longer works at BMSP.
She still lives in Kenton at this time.

Dillon is my son. He’s one helluva hard worker. He’s also intelligent & energetic and a genuinely nice person. I can assure you, he DOES care about keeping the park a dedicated dark skies observation area! Give him a chance. Get to know him. I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

For all Club members!
Dillon has contacted me and he does intend to try to keep up with BMSP’s Dark Sky designation. I’ll be heading up there in the near future to meet with him and answer any questions he may have. If you are going to the State Park and wish to contact him to run an impromptu Star Party, feel free to do so.

We intend to invite BMSP staff & campers to our Community Star Party at Camp Billy Joe on Friday night, October 9th - 7:30 pm - midnight.
At this time we are tentatively scheduling a Star Party at BMSP Campground on Saturday, October 17th AFTER OTSP ends. If you are willing to assist at either event, please message me.
