OKCAC Member Nights at CRO 2024

New member here.

Very excited to attend a CRO event.

Will definitely come the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and would love to come on the 23rd as well, but not sure yet if that night will work out.

Hope you can make it!

Welcome, Brent! Bring a scope or look/talk to other members. Hopefully the 14" observatory will be open to you, too! It’s a night open to ALL club members. Not just CRO members. It’s part of your Regular membership.

Enjoy dark skies away from city lights. CRO is open to you on moonless nights 2 or 3 times a month.

Clear skies!!

I’m planning on making it out for the 23rd.

The forecast for All Members Night this weekend, Nov 23, is for partly cloudy skies, temps in the 50s (remember to dress for 30F!), and high winds, 15-20mph with gusts higher. Wind chill might be vicious.

I will not be able to come this week, or next. Non-CRO members, please ensure that a CRO member will have the observatory open before you drive out there!

If a CRO member is planning on going out, please post on here you will have the observatory open!

I will not be able to make this one either.

Planning to head out with my daughter tomorrow evening for the all member night.

I’m not sure who the regular CRO key carriers are, but I’ve seen two say they can’t make it this week…

Are there any keepers of the gate who can make it tomorrow?

I am still planning on coming out on the 23rd and I can open the gate and building. I’m planning on arriving around 4:30-4:45. Sunset is @ 5:22.

Thank you, Bob! We appreciate having more CRO members like you volunteer to open CRO for All Member Nights!

Clear Skies!

Awesome!

We’ll see you there!

Thanks for volunteering to open it Bob! I hope you have some decent viewing! Dress warm!

I won’t be there this AMN night; but want more Regular Members to know that the CRO Committee is tasked to increase Regular Member’s opportunities to access CRO, even if there may be possible challenges.

Clouds can be only partial, or disappear after sunset. Temperatures can be planned/dressed for. The facility is worth visiting in and of itself!

Dome and rolloff roof observatories are protected from the wind. The building, library and control room are warmed and air conditioned. There’s water, microwave, snacks in the cupboard. Full, private, comfortable lavatory facilities. Comfortable seating. Tables, chairs. Even cushioned church pews (donated). Exhibits of our Club’s awards and history.

Come and See what our shared hobby and our Club have to offer!

(Yeah. I’m a fanboy)

I’m planning on going out tonight. Not sure how long I will stay. Planning on going out a bit early to get the Dome and roll-off roof observatories cleaned up and ready to go. Might stop by Swadley’s for some lunch.

All closed up getting ready to leave. The clouds got here early. We did open up the 14ā€ telescope and did some training. Got to look at a few things. Saturn looked good. I think we had a total of 10.

We didn’t open up the 15’ dome to run the 30" telescope due to the wind. We did show it to all that were there. I cleaned out the dome and Chris did a repair on the Shutter contacts.

Thank you, Dave. Those 10 got a fine experience of our facility, and a peek at what it offers. Thanks to Bederer, too!!

It’s worth the time and effort to open CRO every possible AMN.

Clouds? No problem. Cold? Just dress for it. There’ll be plenty of clear nights during the winter months.

Dave- Thanks for the tour and info about the club, even if the sky conditions were less than ideal.

We still got to see some interesting views of Venus, Saturn, the Andromeda Galaxy, and the Owl Cluster.

More interesting on a mostly cloudy night was to learn about the facility and the people who make it work.

We enjoyed the experience a lot, and plan to be back this weekend.

Here’s hoping the weather forecast clears off!

Thanks again!
