Hello i am a student at UCO taking astronomy. I was tasked to attend an astronomy viewing event and I was wondering if i was able to attend this event and view at someone’s telescope at the observing night?

Hello, Riglozano!

You’d be more than welcome to attend this event, and look through telescopes supplied by club members!

However, keep watching this thread for weather updates/cancellation. The forecasts are not very favorable at this time, Wednesday. But it could get better. Watch the discussion board here, or watch the Calendar on the club’s website.

[Oklahoma City Astronomy Club] (https://www.okcastroclub.com/)

You could also come out to our dark site on 9/20 and/or 9/26…Cheddar Ranch Observatory. We hold open nights for regular club members and invited guests. You can Google the location. We have a 14" SCT and a 30" dobsonian out there. Members can bring their own scopes as well.

Good luck with your class at UCO!

I’ve been waiting to post someting on this for the forecasts to improve, but.

Right now, all my weather apps are calling for completely cloudy skies at the time of our September First Friday event in Moore.

I have a conflict and can’t make it even if it was clear. If someone local wants to go to the park and be there if anyone show up, that’s great, but I think you’ll be identifying what stratus clouds look like, not stars.

Please let me know if anyone from the club wants to be there to hold the fort, otherwise I’ll most likely cancel this tomorrow afternoon.

I’ll be around the corner at the Southmoore football game.

Saturday looks much better.

Ah yes. Friday Night High School Football season has started! Being a former HS football referee you’d think I’d remember that, but it slipped my mind. That reduces attendence at our First Friday events every fall.

Enjoy the game! I loved officiating football games. I got the best view in the house! (though many fans seemed to think I was blind…)

We’re also right close to the Full Moon. 96.6% illuminated Friday.

If the clouds hold off, it’s almost bright enough for football! (Except for the refs, who may or may not need artificial light)

Saturday the moon will be even brighter. Good doubles viewing, though.

The moon is a great object to observe for public viewing events! Jupiter and Saturn are the other two best viewing objects for the public.

And refs need all the help they can get! The crowd expects us to see everything. And see everything perfectly. Sadly, that’s impossible.

I reckon we should just cancel it unless someone wants to sit there. It’s been misting so I wouldn’t be wanting to get equipment out. Just sitting out there without equipment probably won’t get much attention, even if people are out.

Saturday night weather looks better. Anyone interested for tomorrow night?

Tonight looks like it will be completley overcast. I can’t make it tomorrow, but I’ll reschedule it on the calendar for then if you, Gerald, and/or others want to try then.

I just canceled tonight and we’ll try First Friday on Saturday tomorrow night.

It looks pretty good for tonight. Bringing my Seestar S50. Debating about bringing my Orion 6" for some visual. We have 2 guest saying they are coming out tonight. Going to get there about an hour before Sunset which is at 7:49pm. The Moon is rising at 7:25pm.

Plans changed and I came down for First Friday. Gerald, Dave and I are here, with a couple that is interested in learning about astronomy.

The sky is clear, and the wind calm! If you’re in the area, com’on over!

Will joined us a bit after I got there and we had four scopes set up. Two optical scopes and two smart scopes. A good blend!

We had two couples stop by and were very interested in what we were observing. One couple seemed very interested in coming to OTSP.

It was a great night!
