All Members Nights at CRO

I wont be making it out tonight. It does look like a great night and I wanted to help run the 30 and test some things out, but after a long week I am needed on the home front. Have a great night everyone!

CRO IS OPEN!

And while it may still be cloudy where you are, it’s almost completely clear here. Some low stratus clouds to the south, which I expect to clear in a bit.

Should be a very good night for viewing the universe! Com’on out!

Headed that way

There’s mini cinnamon rolls and apple cider cake bites waiting for folks here. First come, first serve! When they’re gone, they’re gone!

Wish i could make it out tonight, but wife’s family has arrived and sucks up all my time.

Enjoy!!!

It’s almost dark enough to start imaging. Should be great viewing tonight!

I’m attempting to image a distant galaxy for you. My window is open for 3 hours. Hope that’s enough time

CRO IS CLOSED!

It was a great viewing night! Very clear all evening, and light to no wind! Had to warm up periodically in the building, but it was a great evening! Joel was sitting out in shorts and sandals, as he promised he would.

We had 5 people out tonight. 3 members and 2 guest. Bill and I got some great images with our smart scopes, and I did a couple of long science observations.

I hope next month’s AMN’s are as good as this one was!

The next OKCAC All Member night at CRO is on Saturday, Dec 13th.

Sunset is at 5:21pm and the Moon rises at 2:44am. Like Bill says the Geminids Meteor Shower peaks on this night. Should be up high enough by around 9pm.

If you’re planning to come out, please post on here that you are going.

Remember to dress for the cooler temperatures.

I should be able to make this one.

The forecast is clear, 30s and very windy. Wind chill may be brutal. Will be a good night for the 14” and the 30”!

I am in town on business, but I always travel with my telescopes. I am not currently a member of the club, but I was wondering if it would be possible to bring my scopes out to CRO on 12/20? I favor the photography side of the hobby, so I have a 11" RASA.

Welcome to OKC Ben! Yes, I’m inviting you to come out on the 20th. If you’re in town now, we have an All Members Night at CRO tomorrow night, too. But it will be extremely cold and very windy. I doubt you’d be able to image tomorrow night, but you’re welcome to come out and observe through our 14" and/or our 30". They’ll be partially protected by the wind, and we have a nice warm building to warm up in if (when) you get cold.

The very long range forecast for the 20th is calling for mostly clear skies, warmer temps (in the 40s) and less wind (5-10mph). Dress appropriately.

Enter Cheddar Ranch Observatory into Apple or Google Maps and it can guide you to the site.

Please check back here before you leave for updates to ensure the observatory will be open! The weather can change in 5 minutes and we don’t want anyone driving all the way out there just to find the gate is locked.

Thank you so much!

I was definitely interested in coming out tomorrow, but I saw the high winds in the forecast and that’s a definite no-go for my rig. I can handle winds up to about 10 or maybe 12 mph, but tomorrow is looking like 18+. I’m looking to try out a new guide scope setup, so I really need calm conditions.

I also accidentally got sucked into some plans with coworkers tomorrow night. I was trying to come out to the social happening tonight but I just got off work and I’m way across town and exhausted, lol.

Thanks again for the invite, and fingers crossed I’ll get to come out and meet some people next Saturday. I’m in town for several weeks, sometimes months (we never know how long; it’s all very last minute instructions), so if not next weekend, maybe the next event at CRO!

If it’s alright, I could even set up one night when you guys meet here in town. I have some new narrow-band filters coming in a couple weeks that I would love to test out under bad light pollution, as crazy as that sounds, lol.

Ben, I just finished doing some imaging from my backyard. Pretty cold (29F), but no wind! So didn’t seem all that cold. The night was too perfect to not set up! Especially with the windy forecast tomorrow.

Got 5 Science Observations uploading to the SETI Institute right now. 4 missions on comets, including C/2025 N1 (3I Atlas), the interstellar object just passing through, and 1 of EE Cep.

I am unable to make it tomorrow night, er, tonight, at CRO. But am planning on being there on the 20th.

Besides our twice monthly All Member Nights at CRO, if you’re in town on the first Friday of any month, we hold a First Friday Public Observing Night at Arbor Gardens Park in Moore. You’re welcome to come to that any time you can make it. You can find the thread for that under the Events category. Keep an eye out in the Events category for any other observing events.

I’m planning on coming out mainly for the peak of the Geminids Meteor Shower. Will try to get there an hour before Sunset.

I am planning on heading that way after work, but it will be late. I get off at 9, so likely won’t be in the area until around 10:30 or 10:45. Will y’all have already packed up and left by then? No worries if so, I can just go to the American Horse Lake Park just a little further South. Thank you again for the invite!

It will depend on several factors. How many people show up. How many meteors we see. How cold I get. Even on great nights people seem to leave by Midnight. I will post after I get there to let you know if others show up that haven’t posted. With the temperature and forecasted wind I would think we will be done by Midnight.
