The next OKCAC All Member night at CRO is on Saturday, Oct 25th.
Sunset is at 6:46pm and the Moon sets at 9:10pm. Saturn rises at 5:14pm
If you’re planning to come out, please post on here that you are going. We have a couple of visitors wanting to come out.
Comets C/2025 R2 and C/2025 A6 will be up, not naked eye visible.
Remember to dress for the cooler temperatures.

The very long range forecast is for partly cloudy skies, moderate winds, and temps in the 50s.
The stickers weren’t too bad last night, but I do not recommend either sandals or soft soled shoes. I’ve ruined two pair of fairly expensive shoes from the spines of the stickers embedded in the soles. Even with tweezers, I can’t get the dozens of spines out of them. They played havoc on my carpet. I donated them to Goodwill.
My hard soled Army boots do fine with stickers.
I have Crocs that seem to do well too, lol, I DO NOT recommend them though. Follow Mitche’s example!
There might be a run on army boots at the local military surplus store.
They’re actually very comfortable.

It’s not looking good for this Saturday. The forecast is for heavy rain Thu-Sat. And completely cloudy.
Just heard on the radio they’re expecting record breaking rainfall.
Check back here for updates, but I’ll most likely cancel this on Friday if the forecasts hold.
I’ll come out and open, if it’s JUST cloudy.
Members should look out for storms. That’s reason enough for my not traveling out. But clouds will not deter me.
Come out for a tour of the facility and the major telescopes we have, and any help with equipment or questions you might have.

I just talked with Marv, and we’ve agreed that it’s best to cancel tomorrow night’s All Members Night. Forecasts predict heavy rains this evening, then lighter rain the rest of the night, until about noon tomorrow. Then rain may start again about 2200. The roads, and the grounds, will be muddy and there will be 100% cloud cover.
The next All Members Night at CRO will be 15 November. Hopefully we’ll have better weather then!

I’m coming out early for the committee meeting, as well.
I plan to stay and assist any members who come out to experience the facility.
Even though the days are still warm, the air cools down very fast out there.
I’m tentative for Saturday night. I’ve never been, and I want to go, but sometimes my Saturdays get away from me a little…
Sure hope you can make it Saturday or next Saturday all member night! The facility is ready for all nembers, with or without a telescope. We’ve got some to try out, or explore for yourself. The C14 and 30" Dob are operational.
EDIT: Please note that sunset is at 5:27. If you’ve never been to CRO, there is no outside white lighting for obvious reasons, (except maybe a few red headlamps bobbing around.) So plan to arrive at or before sunset in order to park aand get an orientation to the buildings and grounds. It’s also a lot easier to set up your own scope on a pad in daylight. How well I know!
