I can be there to help Marv open & close CRO for All Member Nights 9/20 and 9/27
Thanks, Bill! I hope you have great viewing both nights! (partly because that probably means we’ll have great viewing in the panhandle, too!)
I’ll be at OkieTex on the 20th and probably will not make it on the 27th either.
Marv, going out to CRO is remains on my Saturday to-do list. Astropheric’s best sky conditions are average until 3:00 AM-ish
What are you thinking?
-Bill
As of now I think it’s a GO. It might be partly cloudy, but that won’t stop us. CRO should be open for all regular members, even if it’s clouded over.
Come out for a tour and telescope talk, if nothing else. We’ll try to have something to look at through the 14" Celestron and the 30" Dobsonian.
That said, rain storms at CRO or on the route before and after that would make it dangerous to travel will result in cancelation.
I’ll be watching radar tomorrow afternoon and will post by 5 p.m. if we’re openning or canceling.
Hopefully we can be open!!
I’m just catching the news about C/2025 R2 (SWAN). Maybe luck will be on our side
Well, I hate to say it, but rainstorms along I-40, and more coming up toward OKC from the SW are going to keep me at home. ![]()
No one else has posted that they want to come out, so it’s best to be safe and wait for next week.
Okie-Tex is getting rain., too. ![]()
Sorry for the late cancellation, but I was hoping rain wouldn’t be an issue.
I officially canceled tonight on the calendar. Just looked at the camera and the gate is open. A car is there. It is clear overhead but is surrounded by dark clouds.
Thanks, Dave!
Probably Bill Farrer is there. He said he was coming out. I messaged him but haven’t heard from him. He must’ve come out earlier.
All Member Night 9/27 looks to be good, so far. Members please watch, and please post if you’re coming out.
We’re anticipating being open, and we need to know if anyone is expected.
Thank you.
I’ll be there, Marv. Looks like an amazing night is shaping up
Thanks, guys, for opening CRO for our regular club members!
I’m planning on coming out 9/27
That’s great, Bob! Thanks for letting us know.
All regular club members are invited out to experience Cheddar Ranch Observatory. Opening by 6:30, or earlier if a CRO Member gets there before i do.
Looks like we’ll have operators for both the C14 and the 30" Dobsonian. So even if you don’t have a telescope, come on out and experience your club’s scopes.
Or set your own scope up on a 6x6 pad and enjoy a dark sky away from city light glow.
Do be aware that the temperature will drop and be quite cool after dark, so dress accordingly. The grassy areas haven’t been mowed, so socks, slacks and shoes will be essential. EDIT: Mowing in process!
Looking forward to seeing you!
I am planning to come out tonight, if I can find all the bits and pieces in time…
A question, though - in June I got an email saying the codes hadn’t yet changed “but will be changed soon”. I don’t have any subsequent email. Are we still on the codes from last year, or did I miss the email with the change?
Hoping to be there by 6:30, maybe a bit earlier if I get everything located and loaded in time.
The codes have been changed. No other email was sent since the first email had the code in it.
The gates are open for mowing. So come on in. I’ll give you the code when i get there.
Hah, okay, thanks Dave! I read right past it… ![]()
I hope you’re having clearer skies that we have at BMSP right now! Been pouring rain for almost an hour now. Has slackened off some, but our outreach event is canceled.
CRO is open with clear sky … 4 members & 2 guest. Maybe more will come out?
